We get this question a lot, so here's the honest short version. Prices. When you check a card's value, we look at recent real world sales of comparable cards and estimate what yours is worth today. We filter and weight those sales so the comps genuinely match your card — same player, set, parallel, serial range, and condition — and we surface the comparable sales behind the number so you can see our work. How do you come up with a card's value?

We analyze recent real world sales of comparable cards to estimate what yours is worth today. We filter and weight those sales so the estimate reflects cards that genuinely match yours — same player, set, parallel, serial range, and condition. The more specific your card's details (parallel, print run, autograph, condition), the sharper the estimate. Our data refreshes regularly, so values track the live market rather than a stale price guide.

Check Price vs. Research — what's the difference?

They're the same engine at different depths. A quick scan gives you a fast ballpark value as part of identifying the card. Check Price / Research runs a deeper pass — pulling comps, recent comparable sales, and a fuller market read. Deeper research uses your monthly research allowance, which is why it's a separate step.

Question 4

Running price research on cards already in your collection

Accepted Answer

Open any card in your collection and choose Research Price to pull a fresh market estimate backed by recent comparable sales. The result updates the card's saved value, so your collection total stays current. On the web app the refreshed value appears right away; on the mobile app research runs in the background and you'll get a notification when the new price is ready. Research draws from your monthly research allowance.

Bulk research: pricing many cards at once

Accepted Answer

On the web app you can select multiple cards and run research on the whole group at once instead of one at a time — handy after a big import or to refresh a player's run. (On mobile, research is done one card at a time.) Each card researched draws from your monthly research allowance.

Reading comps and comp tiers

Accepted Answer

A value comes with its receipts. Comps are the recent comparable sales behind the estimate — you can see the individual sales that built the number. A comp tier (or confidence indicator) tells you how strong the match is: more, closer sales mean a more confident number; few or loose matches mean treat it as a ballpark.

Set checklists and matching your card

Accepted Answer

You can link a collection to a set's checklist to track your completion progress — which cards you own and which you still need. When the system can match your card to a specific checklist entry, that exact identity helps pricing pull comps for precisely that card rather than a near match. The more complete your card's details (parallel, serial, autograph), the better the match and the sharper the value.

Question 8

Why is there no price or no comps for my card?

Accepted Answer

A few things can cause this: It's a thin market. Some cards trade rarely, so there aren't enough recent sales to build a confident estimate. The card details aren't pinned down yet. Add the parallel, serial number, or autograph info and try again — more detail means a better match. It's brand new. Very recent releases may not have enough sales history yet. If you have a front and back photo, run Check Price — it does a deeper search and often finds comps a quick scan won't.

Question 9

Why doesn't my graded card show a value below the raw price?

By design. A graded copy of a card shouldn't be worth less than the same card raw, so when our estimate for a graded version would come out below the raw value, we hold off on showing it rather than display a number that doesn't make sense. As more graded sales come in, the value fills in.
